Top-quartile safety performer CIS wins RoSPA Gold Award

04/05/2010

Conductor Installation Services (CIS), an Acteon company, has not only achieved a key milestone, five years without a lost-time incident or recordable injury, it has also been awarded a prestigious Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in recognition of its safety performance.

The RoSPA safety awards have been recognising health and safety success for over 50 years, and previous winners include some of industry’s top-performing companies. RoSPA Gold Award winners have to demonstrate well-developed occupational health and safety management systems, proactive culture and effective control of risk and achieve a low incident frequency rate.

“Safety is imperative in the offshore oil and gas industry because we operate in hazardous, hostile and dynamic conditions, and everyone is acutely aware of the potential human, environmental and business consequences of safety failures,” says Andy Penman, group managing director, CIS. “At CIS, safety is our top priority because we want to protect the people we work alongside and our people to return home safe and sound every time.”

CIS has a full complement of quality, health, safety and environmental (QHSE) procedures and processes in place, and has achieved ISO 9001:2008 (quality management) accreditation as well as OHSAS 18001:2007 (safety management) accreditation. ISO 14001:2004 (environmental management) accreditation will be achieved within 2010.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, says, “CIS has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Organisations which do this deserve to have such dedication recognised and that’s where the RoSPA Awards come in.”

He adds, “As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good health and safety management, there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere.”
